皮纹是手指、手掌及脚掌等处皮膌纹的型态,由皮肤表皮层分化后所形成的隆起部分,大多呈长条弯曲相互平行的纹线。皮纹是人类一种重要的遗传性状,能反映出一个人的遗传信息和体质强弱。

 

1. 手、足的发育是在胚胎受孕第13周开始,真皮的样式形成,至19周左右完成全部的分化,此后即定型不再有任何变化。

2. 真皮层主要由结缔组织构成,分为乳头层与网状层;其中,真皮的乳头层向表皮突出分化,形成许多整齐的乳头线,称为皮纹(皮膌纹)。

3. 足、掌、指间的皮纹,出生时已经定型而且终身不变。这些皮纹的形成是受基因遗传控制的。

4. 皮纹分化的期间,如有特殊遗传时,就会产生出不同的皮纹样式。

5. 例如唐氏症候群出现的:脚掌的胫弧形纹、手掌的单一弯折(断掌)或远端三叉点等样式。

皮纹测评成为一种预测、分析、评估早期智力的良好方法。皮纹学是研究以手掌和脚底为主的皮纹纹理结构、发育、遗传和群体分布及其应用的科学。胚胎内液体平衡变化影响神经系统的发育,因而决定了人类智慧的高低,手指端神经末梢丰富,皮纹嵴线形成良好,是人类智力最集中表现的部分之一。
